You have to wonder what truth is and what gives us the right to think what we think. Everybody has the right to think what they want. Where is the fine line between what we think and the truth? I think that truth is a matter of opinion. That sounds kind of weird, but truth means something different to everyone and that is okay. Some people though, do not allow other people’s opinions and that is wrong.
I think that truth is very important to today’s society. I think that many people just disregard truth and the value that it should have. There are many things that would be better off in our world if they were based on truth. Relationships are one example of that. I don’t just mean romantic relationships, but any relationship. More often than not, in today’s society, relationships are built on what brings pleasure sooner than later. This is important, but there are many other characteristics to a good and “healthy” relationship. This is just one example, but it is an important one.
Fact is another interesting subject. I personally believe that a fact is something that is proven. This brings up many interesting conversations though. Because when we say it is proven, what does that mean exactly? Everyone uses different sources to “prove” things are true.
For example, when people are Christian, many of them use the Bible to prove that those things are facts. To someone who does not believe that though, the Bible is completely fake. I think that it is nearly impossible, if not completely impossible, to prove anything. There is always data that is for topics and against topics. There are certain people that agree with certain things and others who disagree on that same topic. Honestly, I do not know if I can define a fact. It is different in everyone’s eyes.

I took ethics during the summer. That class really opened my eyes to all the possibilities of different beliefs that come attached to all subjects. One that comes to mind is abortion. There are so many different situations that can come up that can slightly change your opinion on a certain subject. I really enjoyed that class because it let me freely express my opinion even though people did disagree with me. That is what I like about these blogs too. I can feel free to say my opinion. Not everyone always feels self-conscious enough to give their true opinion. This is easily explained. So many times, people have their opinion shot down just because it might be different and not the most commonly accepted. As I said, that is one thing that I think needs to change. Everybody needs to be more accepting of others’ beliefs and opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on everything and that is what should be. They should not have to worry about their own thoughts being criticized I believe this can change easily if everyone just opens up their minds a little bit.
Are all opinions created equal? In an educational environment there is the problem of "equal opportunity." That means if someone loudly states racist comments and makes other students uncomfortable, the environment quickly becomes unequal. How should that be dealt with? Also, Nazi Germany--is that an "ok" outlook on life? Is it okay to believe and willfully engage in genocide? Where do we draw the line?
