I really don’t get this movie. I also am confused at the blue pill red pill choice. I am going to try to talk about this the best I can with what I have gotten out of the movie.
Enlightenment is that you have a path in life set out for you before you were born. This is a part of religions. In the movie the Matrix, Neo gets told he is the one. That is Neo’s enlightenment in the movie. He chooses to follow that path.
In real life I do not believe in enlightenment. I think that you are who you are but I don’t think that someone higher than us has everybody journey set out for them. I feel that you should live your life the way you think best. It is not all put out there for you to follow. You have to make your own choices in your life.
Neo goes with his enlightenment by finding out more about his path by finding out about the matrix. In this movie he followed his enlightenment.
I didn't explain it properly: Enlightenment isn't the path set out for you by a higher power, or even your fate per say. It simply is (if anything about this is simple) the path that your existence will most easily walk, and/or the role the energy you are made of has evolved to fulfill. It's all about the balance... :)
